Char Anderson's Techniques for Porcelain Art

Each video is from 60 to 80 minutes long, professionally edited with step-by-step instructions, brush technique, and how to use the analogous color wheel. Color and design theory are explained in each video and each firing. Each video has been indexed to correlate with the VCR counter which makes it very easy to find specific areas or subject matter in the video. Nature photos and sketches of the subject are combined into a line drawing which is enclosed.


Video #1 Grapes
Grapes This video contains green and ruby grapes. The first fire focuses on creating interesting shapes within the green grape cluster contrasted by the darker ruby grapes. On the second fire, stems and secondary leaves are added. The third fire is focused on unifying the background and specific areas with washes to create a good color balance.


Video #2 Chrysanthemums
Chrysanthemums This video contains white and ruby chysanthemums. The first fire concentrates on creating interesting shapes of the main white mums contrasted by the ruby flower and dark green foliage. On the second fire, additional leaves and stems are added to create movement in the main design. The third fire is focused on unifying the painting with the use of washes.


Video #3 Roses
Roses This video contains the yellow and ruby roses. The first fire is concentrated on creating interesting shapes and contrasts and focuses on brush control. On the second fire, the stems and secondary leaves are added by painting with turpentine and learning the use of the scroller. The third fire details the main rose and adds washes of color to reflect surroundings.


Video #4 Pansies
Pansies This video contains yellow and purple pansies. For the first fire, the main yellow and purple pansies are painted with the main leaves in the background. On the second fire, stems and shadow leaves are added. The painting is unified on the third fire with washes of color creating continuous color paths and balance.


Video #5 Poppies
Poppies This video contains pink and orange-red poppies. The first fire concentrates on painting the two main flowers in detail. The second fire is focused on adding additional leaves. The third fire focuses on detailing the center of the flowers.


Video #6 Yellow and Ruby Iris
Iris This video will show you how to paint the ruby and yellow iris with proper brush control. The first fire teaches interesting shapes and contrast by painting the main yellow iris accented by the secondary ruby iris. The second fire deals with movement and design. The third fire unifies the painting with washes of color.


Video #7 Pink Hibiscus
Pink Hibiscus This video teaches interesting shapes of the hibiscus and a new texturing technique with gold leaf flaking. This has to be fired and the glaze removed before any painting is done on the flower.


Video #8 Airbrushing Orchids
Orchids This video contains valuable step-by-step instructions on how to use the airbrush and tips on mixing your paint using both open and closed mediums. Several beginner projects are included.


Video #9 Seascapes
Seascapes This video contains valuable step-by-step instruction on how to paint water and make it look transparent. The video also contains footage of the ocean detailing foam patterns with pockets of water and wave splashes.
